PKI Proof-of-Concept Pilot for
Defense Information Systems Agency

IBM and its subcontractor, Advanced Broadband
Solutions, Incorporated (ABSI), in designing and
implementing "proof-of-concept" Public
Key Infrastructure (PKI) for the Defense
Information Systems Agency. BITS was responsible
for designing and implementing PKI within DISA's
Netscape Suitespot environment. All work was
performed onsite at the Defense MegaCenter in
Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. BITS designed
and implemented a total PKI solution and wrote
operating procedures for operating and
maintaining the system. We also documented
technical and functional findings specific to the
DISA environment and converted all procedures and
policies into HTML format for posting to the
Web. Finally, BITS trained DISA staff to
operate and maintain the system.
